Changes to Pittsburgh paid-sick days legislation introduced

“City Councilman Corey O’Connor introduced a series of amendments Wednesday to legislation requiring Pittsburgh employers to offer paid sick leave, softening some of the rough edges to make the proposed law easier to swallow for businesses.

Mr. O’Connor also asked for and received a week’s delay for the bill, which was introduced earlier this month and will be the subject of a public hearing next Thursday in council chambers.

Now, the law will not apply to seasonal workers, the amount of paid leave required is reduced and employees must work more hours to accrue it, among other changes.”

Come out to the Public Hearing to let Councilman O’Connor know that we are thankful for council support, and we need a strong Paid Sick Days ordinance that protects public health and substantially improves the lives of working people in Pittsburgh.
